Keir Starmer, has won the UK general election and will become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom later today. A Nigerian born lover of British Democracy, Dr Eric Oluedo, has congratulated Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, for emerging the next Prime Minister of UK. Dr Oluedo who is also a Crusader for Citizens to get their Rights and live up to their Responsibilities, called on African Union, ECOWAS and other bodies to emulate the seamless democratic processes in the UK elections, before, during and after.
“Change begins now. It feels good, I have to be honest,” Starmer told a cheering crowd in central London. Keir Starmer has won the UK general election and will become the next prime minister of the country later today.
Labour has been declared official winner of the poll with 410 parliamentary seats.
“Britain has delivered a sobering verdict. On this difficult night, I’d like to express my gratitude to the people of Richmond and Northallerton constituency for your continued support,” Sunak said. “The Labour Party has won this general election and I’ve called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory.
“The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn… and I take responsibility for the loss. “To the many good, hard-working Conservative candidates who lost tonight, despite their tireless efforts, their local records and delivery, and their dedication to their communities, I am sorry.” Sunak said.
Keir Starmer, Britain’s Labour leader and incoming prime minister, hailed his party’s landslide victory at a celebratory event in London on July 5.
After a stunning victory that shattered the Conservative Party’s 14-year hold on power, Britain’s left-leaning Labour Party moved to take hold of the reins of government. Incoming prime minister Keir Starmer promised to help Britain “get its future back” and claimed a “mandate to relight the fire” after difficult years of economic crisis and hardship. He will visit King Charles III at Buckingham Palace later Friday and ask to form a government. Labour is returning to power after 14 years in the opposition — and after Starmer led an effort to purge the hard-left elements of the party and sell voters on a “changed Labour.”
Voters told pollsters and media that they were frustrated with the Conservative Party and wanted change. For some that means they want the government to resolve a cost-of-living crisis and improve public services. Others want fewer scandals and more stable leadership.
British government transitions are highly choreographed. There will be speeches in front of 10 Downing Street and drives to and from Buckingham Palace. In the afternoon, Starmer will name his cabinet.
