2024 International Day of Neutrality, Dec 12. An lnternational Mediator, Dr Oluedo Eric, has warned that the best way to prevent World War 3 is for Super Power Nations like USA and Russia to join Turkmenistan and Switzerland as Countries of Neutrality, thereby maintaining peaceful relations among Nations. Speaking on the Theme for the 2024 International Day of Neutrality: “Promoting Peace and Stability”, Dr Oluedo who is also a Crusader for World Peace, pointed out that the Promotion of World Peace and Stability should no longer be left in the hands of the United Nations alone, rather it should be the Responsibilities of the entire Citizens of the world. It should be included in the Curricular of all public and private schools and taught in all the Schools of the world, from Junior to Adult schools.

As a Mediation and Arbitration Expert, he went further to narrate how a simple Misunderstanding leads to Disagreement, and then to Dispute, then to Conflict, then to Crisis, and finally to War and Genocide. If there are Instruments for Peace Making, Peace Building, Peace Keeping, Peace maintenance, Peace Restoration and Peace sustenance on ground, this simple Misunderstanding from a mismanaged Anger, will be prevented from escalating to War and Genocide. Neutrality provides that “humanitarian actors must not take sides in hostilities or engage in controversies of a political, racial, religious, or ideological nature”. Neutrality creates “humanitarian space” where humanitarian organizations can continue their crucial work to access its beneficiaries and provide them with crucial aid and to communicate with all parties to ensure that its buildings are not affected during times of hostilities or armed violence. Neutrality also enables Humanitarian agencies to work with host governments to import medicines for its clinics and to secure visas for staff to enable them to carry out their professional duties.

International Day of Neutrality is celebrated on December 12th each year to promote peaceful relations between countries. The date was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of Turkmenistan’s adoption of the Declaration of Neutrality in 1995.
The United Nations (UN) uses neutrality to gain the cooperation of its member countries and to strengthen world security and peace. It highlights the importance of remaining impartial, non-aligned, and neutral in conflicts to contribute to peace, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
