“Education is our priority because it is the fastest and surest way to achieve Zero % Rate in the Poverty Headcount Index (PHI)”. Peter Mbah Reminds ESUT Governing Council

“We Have Identified Education as the Strongest Weapon against Poverty,” Mbah Reiterated as he Inaugurated the Governing Council of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

■ Mbah, while inaugurating the council in the early hours of today, Tuesday, 26th March, 2024, said his government had taken education as the number one priority in the drive to achieve zero per cent poverty headcount index in Enugu State.

■ Congratulated the chairman and members of the governing Council, saying their nomination and appointment were founded on their track records, network, and experience;

■ that their appointment was consistent with the government’s philosophy and policy on education , coming at a time when 33 per cent of the state’s budget was vested on education

■ Said that his government was building 260 smart schools in the 260 wards of the state, as well as establising a centre for experiential learning and innovation, revealing that his government was also setting up similar centres like tech-hubs and innovation centres at the state’s universities.

■ Said the task before the council was onerous and far-reaching and so, urged them to cultivate a harmonious relationship with the management of the university and to see their duties as complementary in order to achieve the objectives of the university.

■Said the state government was in the expectation that the council would put in place effective control in the area of finance and investments of the university, bringing value to what the management of the school was doing, while also advising the council not to work at cross purposes with the management.

■ Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated council, Chief Chinyeaka Oha, the Chairman of the Governing Council, thanked the governor for their appointment, while promising that the council would key into the smartness which the governor had brought to bear on governance, especially in the education sector, while also commending the governor for his uncommon achievements in office in less than one year, saying that Governor Mbah was a reference point of exquisite leadership to emulate.

■Present at the inauguration were some state officials: Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh; Commissioner for Education, Prof Mbah; Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Ajogwu; SPA Delivery, Ozed Afigbo, SSA New Media, Reuben Onyishi; SSA Mainstream Media, Dan Nwomeh; SSA External Relations, Uche Anichukwu Also present was the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Michael Okolie.

■ Other members of the council present were Chief Chinedu Onuh, Dr Eric Oluedo, Engr James,Ajibo, Dr Jacinta Eze, Prof. Chike Nwoha , Prof. Ikenna Chukwu, Gladys Ngozi Okoro and others.
