2024 World Food Day: A Health Economist, Dr Oluedo Eric, has commended the Governor of Enugu State, Dr Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his resolve that Enugu State Will Start Exporting Food by Next Year, 2025 and that the 260 Smart Farms will also be completed. Speaking on the Theme of the 2024 World Food Day: “Right to foods for a better life and a better future”, Dr Oluedo, who was a former Commissioner for Agriculture in Enugu State, adviced all key Stakeholders to work in Collaboration and not in Competition for the achievement of these and other goals, especially with the Agricultural Revolution going on in the State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro Industrialisation.
Because a greater diversity of nutritious harvested foods should be available on our tables (for Stomach), in our Stores (for Storage), and in our markets (for Trade and Commerce), the “Soil-to-Stomach, Soil-to-Storage and Soil-to-Market” Systems of Specialised Food Production should be escalated to achieve Zero Hunger before 2030.

Every year, World Food Day is celebrated across the world on October 16, highlighting the global campaigns to end hunger and make sure that every individual has access to nutritious food. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) started this global event to start a fight against hunger, raise awareness about healthy diets, and promote action against malnutrition and food security. The objective of World Food Day is to eradicate hunger, ensure food security, boost agricultural productivity and support a sustainable food system. It is a global initiative bringing governments, organisations and individuals to tackle the pressing issue of hunger and malnutrition.
Finally, Nigeria needs to take very urgent steps to reduce the prevailing very high cost of food to save millions of children who are now suffering from Protein Energy Malnutrition.
